Request a substitute
Teachers ask for a sub for one class, and the office assigns someone to cover it.

When a teacher can't make a class, they can ask for a substitute in FrontRow. The request goes to the office, and an owner or admin picks who covers it. Only that one session changes. The teacher's other classes stay the same.
For teachers: ask for a sub#
- Open My classes in the menu. If you're an owner or admin who teaches, open Calendar, then choose My classes.
- On the class, choose Roster and parents.
- Choose Request a sub.
- Add a Reason if you like (for example "Doctor's appointment"). It's optional.
- Choose Request a sub to send it.
The class now shows Sub requested in My classes. Once someone is assigned, the class comes off your list.
Change your mind?#
Open the class again with Roster and parents and choose Withdraw sub request. The class stays yours.
Tip: Ask as early as you can. It gives the office more time to find someone.
For owners and admins: assign a sub#
- Open Calendar in the menu, then choose Sub requests.
- Each open request shows the class, date, time, teacher and reason, marked Needs a sub.
- Choose someone from Choose a sub….
- Choose Assign.
The substitute now teaches that session. It shows up in their My classes, and they can take attendance for it.
If the sub is already busy#
If the person you picked is already teaching at that time, you'll see a message saying they're already booked. Pick someone else, or choose Assign anyway if you know it works out.
If no one can cover it#
Choose Close without a sub to close the request. The session stays with the original teacher. If the class can't run at all, see Move or cancel a class session.
Past requests#
The Recently closed list at the bottom shows who covered each class, or Closed without a sub.
Who can do what#
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Teacher | Request a sub for their own classes, and withdraw it |
| Owner, admin | Assign a sub or close a request |
| Front desk | See requests |
