Add a family
Add a new family and their first student, then add parents and enroll them in classes.
Students and families2 min read
In FrontRow every student belongs to a family. The family holds the parents, the account balance and the payment details, so siblings share one account. Here's how to add a new family by hand, for example when a parent calls or walks in.
Add the family and first student#
- Open Students in the menu.
- Select Add Student at the top of the page.
- Enter the Family name (usually the family's last name).
- Enter the student's First name, Last name and Date of birth.
- Select Add student.
FrontRow creates the family and takes you straight to its page, where you can add the rest of the details.
Add a parent#
A family needs at least one parent so the studio can reach them and send bills.
- On the family page, find the Guardians card and select Add parent.
- Enter their first and last name, plus an email, a phone number, or both.
- Add a Relationship if you like (for example Mother or Grandparent).
- If you entered a phone number and they agreed to get texts, tick They agreed to get text messages from the studio.
- Select Add parent.
The first parent you add becomes the account holder and the billing contact, so they get billing emails. You can add more parents or contacts the same way.
Good to know: If another family already uses that email, FrontRow warns you. Tick Add anyway only if it really is the same person or the families share an email. Otherwise you may be about to create a duplicate (see Merge duplicate families).
Add a brother or sister#
- On the family page, find the Students card and select Add student.
- Enter their name and date of birth. The last name is filled in for you.
- Add a Level if you track one.
- Select Add student.
Siblings share the family's account, so their charges and payments all appear in one place.
Invite the parent to the portal#
Once a parent has an email address, select Invite to portal next to their name. They get an email with a link to set up their login so they can see their schedule, pay and message the studio.
Next steps#
- Select Enroll next to a student to put them in a class.
- Add a card or bank account in the Saved payment methods card if you'll use autopay.
Who can do this#
Owners, admins and front desk staff can add families, students and parents. Teachers can view the families of students in the classes they teach, but can't add or change them.
