How costumes work

An overview of recital costumes in FrontRow, from size charts and measurements to ordering, fees and handing out.

Recital costumes take a lot of organizing: who needs what, in which size, from which vendor, and who has paid. FrontRow keeps it all in one place and suggests each student's size from their measurements, so you don't have to do it by hand.

Where to find costumes#

Open Costumes in the menu (on a computer, look under More in the top bar). It has three tabs:

  • Costumes: each costume and the classes that wear it. Select Size charts at the top to see the companies you buy from and their size charts.
  • Measurements: every student's measurements.
  • Purchase orders: your orders to each vendor.

Good to know: Costumes only appear for studios whose program type includes recital costumes, like dance studios. If you don't see Costumes in your menu, it isn't part of your plan.

How it fits together#

  1. Add your vendors and size charts. A size chart tells FrontRow which measurements fit which size. See Costume vendors and size charts.
  2. Collect measurements. Staff can enter them, and parents can add them in the portal before your deadline. See Take measurements.
  3. Create a costume. Pick its vendor and size chart, set the fee, and choose the classes that wear it. Every student actively enrolled in those classes gets it.
  4. Generate a purchase order. FrontRow sizes every student and builds one order per vendor. See Order costumes.
  5. Charge costume fees to each family's account.
  6. Hand out costumes and tick them off as they go home. See Hand out costumes.

Create a costume#

  1. On the Costumes tab, select New costume.
  2. Enter a Name, like "Recital tutu (pink)".
  3. Choose the Vendor and its Size chart. Without a chart, FrontRow can't suggest sizes.
  4. Add the vendor's Item code and the Color if you like.
  5. Enter the Fee per student (what each family pays) and the Vendor price (what you pay, used on purchase orders).
  6. Tick the classes that wear this costume. Use Filter to find them quickly.
  7. Select Save costume.

You need at least one vendor before you can create a costume.

See a costume's sizes#

Select a costume's name to open it. The Sizing tab lists every student in its classes, their measurements, and the Suggested size. Look out for:

  • Between sizes: their measurements fall between two sizes. Check before you order.
  • Above chart: they're bigger than the largest size on the chart.
  • Needs measuring: no measurements yet.

The badges at the top show how many students are sized, need measuring, and have been ordered. Select Edit to change the costume, or Archive to remove it (existing orders keep their lines).
