Connect your own domain

Use your own web address, like www.yourstudio.com, for your FrontRow website, or change your free address.

Every FrontRow website gets a free address. You can also connect a domain you own, like www.yourstudio.com, so families find you at the address they already know.

Only owners and admins can manage your website's addresses.

Your free address#

  1. Open Website in the menu, then the Settings tab.
  2. Under Free address, you'll see your current address.
  3. To change the first part, select Change subdomain, type the new one, and select Save address.

Links to the old address keep working for 90 days, sending visitors to the new one, and no other studio can take it in that time. Your free address keeps working even after you connect your own domain.

Connect a domain you own#

You'll need to sign in to the company where you bought your domain (your domain registrar, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap) and change one setting there. FrontRow shows you exactly what to enter.

  1. On the Settings tab, scroll to Your own domain.
  2. Under Add a domain, type your domain, like www.yourstudio.com.
  3. Select Add domain. Adding yourstudio.com also adds www.yourstudio.com, so both work.
  4. FrontRow shows a small table of records to add. In another browser tab, sign in where you bought your domain and open its DNS settings (the settings that tell the internet where your domain points).
  5. Add each record exactly as shown, using the Copy buttons for the values. Remove any old records with the same name, as the instructions say.
  6. Back in FrontRow, select Check now, or just wait. We keep checking for you.

Changes can take up to a few hours to show up. While you wait, the domain shows Waiting for DNS or Verifying. Once it shows Active, your site works at your domain. A secure connection (the padlock in the browser) is set up for you automatically.

Good to know: One of the records proves the domain is yours, so nobody else can connect it. Your domain goes live once all the records are in place.

Make a domain your main address#

When a domain is Active, select Make primary. Visitors to your other addresses, including your free one, are sent there, and search engines list that address.

If something goes wrong#

  • Needs attention: something about the records isn't right. Read the message under the domain, fix the records, and select Check now.
  • Still stuck after a few hours? Check for typos, and make sure you removed the old records the instructions mention. Your registrar's help pages can show you where their DNS settings live.

Remove a domain#

Select Remove next to it, then Remove domain. Your site stops answering on that domain straight away. Your free address keeps working.
